Le Destin d'Antoine Brulé : Dans l'arène du Parlement

Dans un premier récit, l’auteur a créé le personnage d’Antoine Brûlé
en s’inspirant du parcours de son grand-père paternel qui avait quitté
Sainte-Anne-de-Bellevue à la fi n du 19e siècle pour aller s’établir
dans le Sud-Est ontarien. Associé à la lutte pour l’affi rmation du fait
français, il fut l’un des plus ardents défenseurs des écoles bilingues
au temps de l’adoption du Règlement 17 en 1912.
Dans ce deuxième récit, l’aventure d’Antoine se poursuit dans l’arène
du Parlement et au-delà – des années 1980 jusqu’au milieu des
années 2000. Au cours d’une période jalonnée d’incessants eff orts
de réconciliation nationale, la reconnaissance des droits et libertés
des francophones demeure au coeur de ses préoccupations.
Sur son chemin ponctué de rencontres imprévues, de défaites et de
victoires, Jeanne de Repentigny se révèle un guide fi dèle qui donne à
Antoine l’audace de poursuivre avec assurance un étonnant destin.

His book reviews the history of how things came to be the way they are and points critically to the gridlock between the federal system and the majority of Canada’s 634 First Nations. And how First Nations are unable to contribute to their own communities due to the failure of the current system to understand, honour, update and implement historic agreements. In it Brian shows how uncoordinated federal, provincial, and First Nations levels of jurisdiction have historically created obstacles that make it impossible for Indigenous children to grow up with the fundamental supports they need.
